Reade’s Mayfair Theatre opened its doors on August 5, 1927, at 301 Lake Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Built by famed architect Thomas W. Lamb and operated by Walter Reade Sr., it was one of the most opulent movie palaces on the Jersey Shore, known for its Spanish-Moorish design, ornate plasterwork, and grand marquee overlooking Wesley Lake. For nearly five decades, it hosted premieres, stage shows, and cinematic events before closing on September 8, 1974, and being demolished later that year.
