The New St. James opened on Cookman Avenue in 1917, a Thomas Lamb movie palace with nearly 1,600 seats and a screen big enough to matter. By the late 1960s it had gone Todd-AO, the widescreen format that made Hello, Dolly! feel like an event instead of just another Tuesday night. It came down for good over the winter of 1974 into 1975. This one's for the last kids who ever saw a roadshow picture at Cookman and St. James the way it was meant to be seen.
