The memory

Down the Street opened in 1988 at 230 Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park. John Hitchcock, who had managed and DJed at the M&K, named it for exactly where it sat: just down the street from the Odyssey and the M&K, the town's other gay clubs. Inside there was a dance floor, five bars, light shows and drag contests. Out back was the beer garden, with a volleyball court and a food cart, plus a quieter bar called The Clubhouse in its own building. Billy Krauter was the resident DJ, and Thelma Houston, Sybil and Kristine W all played the room. Down the Street closed in 1999, and in 2001 The Clubhouse building reopened as Anybody's. If you ever closed the place down, this one's yours.

This is the real logo from Down the Street's own business card: the slashed, diagonal "down the street" lettering, with Bar, Disco & Beergarden, 230 Cookman Avenue and Asbury Park, NJ set beside it, just as it was printed on the card. It's printed in white ink with a worn-in, distressed finish, so it looks like a shirt that has been through a few hundred washes.

Printed to order on a Gildan 64000 softstyle tee: 100% ring-spun cotton at 4.5 oz/yd² (153 g/m²), quarter-turned so there is no crease down the center, with shoulder-to-shoulder taping and double stitching at the neckline and sleeves. Sport Grey is a 90/10 cotton-polyester blend and the heather colors are 65/35 polyester-cotton. The chest graphic runs 11 inches wide, set about two inches below the collar.

The graphic is printed direct to garment, one at a time, after you order it.
