First held in 1977 and still going strong thanks to the Point Pleasant Lions Club, the race starts with a ridiculous parade down the beach, then sends participants full speed down the surf ramp in Jenkinson’s, dragging oversized tire tubes into the Atlantic like maniacs.

Once in the water, the rules are simple: no swimming forward—just kick, flail, scream, and pray your tube makes it across the finish line first, just offshore from Martell’s Tiki Bar. Costumes encouraged. Dignity not required. Part beach day, part endurance test, part beer-soaked fundraiser—the Rube Race is a final salute to the summer that refuses to die.
