The memory

Sandy's Arcade, a key business in Henry Vaccaro's Asbury Park footprint, was situated in the prime boardwalk real estate of the First Avenue Pavilion. Operated by Henry Jr. until its closure in the early 1990s, this arcade represented the persistence of amusement and fun during a time of great uncertainty for the city. The irony of an arcade thriving amidst the ruins of massive redevelopment failures—like the infamous Carabetta-Vaccaro partnership collapse—is peak Jersey Shore. Sandy’s was an anchor of activity, holding onto the spirit of the shore when the future was anything but certain. More than just pinball and prizes, this spot was a gathering place. It proved that even when the economy tanked and the big deals went belly up, a simple, loud, quarter-sucking arcade could still draw a crowd. This shirt is a nod to the scrappiness of those years.

Heavyweight by modern standards — 4.5 ounces of ring-spun cotton with taping across the shoulders and a doubled stitch at collar and cuff. It holds a shape through the wash instead of going shapeless by spring.
