The memory

For nearly six decades, the Inkwell sat at 2 different locations on Second Avenue in Long Branch. More bohemian Greenwich Village than Starbucks chain, it served up late-night Dutch Coffee, grilled chicken salad (with meunster!) on pita, and goth‑tinged open‑mic nights—often past 4 a.m. Bands, poets, college kids, and springsteen-fueled dreamers all mixed in the haze of vinyl chatter and patchwork art on the walls. In May 2022, the legend closed for good; by mid‑2023, plans broke ground to replace it with apartments—ending an era but cementing its legacy as a Jersey Shore icon.
