The memory

Opened in 1921 as a vaudeville house, the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, evolved into a legendary rock venue under promoter John Scher in the 1970s. With a seating capacity of 3,200, it hosted memorable performances by artists like The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and the Grateful Dead. Notably, the Grateful Dead's April 25, 1977, concert at the Capitol was released as a live album, capturing the venue's exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere. Despite its closure in 1989 and demolition in 1991, the Capitol Theatre's legacy endures through recordings and memories of unforgettable shows.
