The memory

Pistol Pete's sat on Ocean Avenue at Chelsea, on the west side of the Long Branch boardwalk, near the pier. In 1973 four old storefronts there were made over into a western-style saloon, and the place, which had been Mike's, was renamed Pistol Pete's after the owner's father, who went by that nickname. The matchbooks promised a saloon, entertainment, and that it was open all year, which counted for something in a shore town where plenty of places shut down for the winter. Locals remember it as the stop for pizza at 3 in the morning after the boardwalk clubs let out. When the pier burned in June 1987, the TV crews did their interviews right outside, and Pistol Pete's kept going for years after. If you ever bellied up to the bar at Pistol Pete's, this one's yours.

Fabric and print

This design comes straight from a Pistol Pete's matchbook: the gunslinger with his pistol drawn, over Pistol Pete's Saloon and Entertainment in the matchbook's own lettering, with Long Branch, N.J. added underneath. It's printed in white ink with a worn-in, distressed finish, so it looks like a shirt that has been through a few hundred washes, and the Forest Green is the closest match to the matchbook's dark green.

Printed to order on a Gildan 64000 softstyle tee: 100% ring-spun cotton at 4.5 oz/yd² (153 g/m²), quarter-turned so there is no crease down the center, with shoulder-to-shoulder taping and double stitching at the neckline and sleeves. Sport Grey is a 90/10 cotton-polyester blend and the heather colors are 65/35 polyester-cotton. The chest graphic runs 8 inches wide, set about two inches below the collar.

The graphic is printed direct to garment, one at a time, after you order it.
