Takanassee Beach Club – Long Branch, NJ Before condos took over, this was the spot. Established in 1932 on the grounds of Lifesaving Station No. 5, the Takanassee Beach Club was five acres of pure Jersey Shore summer—cabana life, lifeguard legends, a private lake, and decades of local memories. Family-run for generations, “Tak” was where Long Branch grew up. Gone now, but not forgotten.
More substantial than a fashion tee is the point of this blank — 100% ring-spun cotton, 4.5 oz/yd², heavier in the hand than a lightweight shirt. Double-stitched neckline and sleeves for durability. Shoulders taped, cut quarter-turned, no crease running down the middle of the front.

What happened to the Takanassee Beach Club in Long Branch?
Takanassee opened in 1932 on the grounds of U.S. Lifesaving Station No. 5 in Long Branch, five acres of cabanas, a private lake and generations of Peters family ownership. In 2007 a developer moved to replace it with luxury homes. Condos took the land, and the historic lifesaving buildings became the subject of a long preservation fight.
When did the Takanassee Beach Club in Long Branch close?
The club closed after the property was sold for redevelopment in the late 2000s.
